CREATING SHADOWS.
There are a variety of ways in which shadows can be created; photoshop; finding the source of light and therefore suiting your positioning and a models positioning.
Richard Vantielcke.
I like how Vantielcke displays some texture through these images and creates a key focus in his photos, for example the alleyway that only shows the building at the end which are in the light, framing the subject. And the reflection of the water in the water creating a silhouette of the people in the boat but also attracting the viewer to the light in the water.
Experimentation #1
I like this images use of framing the subject and light usage. I think the use of shapes is very evidently created and formed within the image and it shows a individual sense of the world. I think it also looks quite mysterious, from the starnge use of light, this may have been created by photoshop however.
PHOTOSHOOT (Slideshow)
I chose my final images and experimented on photoshop just how i can create the style his work shows as well as incorporating my own creativeness. I changed the levels of the image and it rendered the image to increase in the sepia tone it had.
|
Then looking at Vantielckes work it showed a distinct difference with light and dark and so by using the burn tool on photoshop i darkened the edges of the image so that the middle created a kind of, '8' shape, like the shapes that Vantielcke makes.

I really like how the final images came out, because they look so simple but have a lot of detail within them at the same time. The contrasting and shadows helps me to fulfill my theme as well as slightly steering off from artist replication.

I really like the use of line created in the images, as it creates a sort of structure and the use of high contrast as a sense of mystery.
Experimentation #3
PHOTOSHOOT: CORNWALL. (Slideshow)
Whilst in Cornwall, I took the opportunity to explore an interesting an beautiful setting through my photography, which enabled me to figure out just how i wanted to replicate my artists work. Though I will not be developing further with these particular images, it did help me to understand what is required for me to duplicate my artists style; use of light and shadow is not evident here.

SILHOUETTES.
From my previous shoot i discovered within them that i had created silhouettes, and realised that this is another form of light and shadow, and i think it may be interesting to explore this more, and properly.
ARSENIY SEMYONOV.
Experimentation.

PHOTOSHOOT #2 (Slideshow) |
I did some practise shoots so that I would know how to execute the real shoots later on and get a sense of the procedure required in taking silhouetted shots. I realised that in order to get good shots I needed to make sure there are no things surrounding the subject and/or blocking the light from framing the subject. Thus when i do the real shots I will have to be careful of this problem, but it will also be difficult.

FINAL SHOOTS.
To fully block out the models faces, i needed to create a contrast with foreground and background and i used to brightness and contrast tools to do this.
|
I then thought i needed to raise the saturation, to reflect the work of Arseniy Semyenov. I continued this same technique throughout editing the other final images as well.
